Gals, your ideas were great and I will definitely tuck them in my back pocket for future parties. We have one in June and one in July.
We wondered around ToysRus for quite some time. We debated the guitar thing but decided we wanted to wait at least another year or so. We were drawn to the car section of the boys department. We looked at all kinds of remote control stuff. Elijah had requested a remote control airplane for his birthday. "Something I don't have to fly with my hands, Mom." Can't you see my 5 year old crashing a remote control airplane? Why do they always want something they aren't old enough for? John was remembering how awesome his electric race track was as a kid. Most of the things were for older kids and had sooooooo many small parts it was crazy. Then we found this one that was a 4 lane race track that folded up. It was all one piece and was along straight ramp. The cars raced on gravity not batteries. It was even rated for 5 and up. So we got picked out a few Hot Wheels cars to go with it and a Hot Wheels carrying case. He already loves his little cars he has at home so hopefully this will add a new dimension to them.
There came the inspiration. I bought some black icing coloring in Walmart's cake decorating section. What can get easier than making a round black cake. I am going to cover something round with aluminum foil to lay in the center for the hub cap and "wa la" a tire. We picked up some red and yellow candy letters that spell Happy Birthday to lay around the tire...you know how tires have writing on the sides sometimes.
So...ssshhhh....Elijah doesn't know yet. He just walked into the room and said..."After this day it is going to be my birthday. " With the sweet joy in his voice that only little kids have when they talk about their birthdays.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELIJAH! WE love you and miss you and think you are absolutely adorable. Hope your days is jam packed with everything boy!

Sounds like fun! How did it go? Pics please!!!
ReplyDeletea good time was had by all. the coolest element was that when i asked elijah, after having just blown out his candle, what he had learned is his first five years of life, his response was "Jesus died on the cross so i don't have to die myself."
ReplyDeleteYou can stop his education now. He's got it all figured out!
